Description: Portrait of Edmund Kean (1787-1833) as Hamlet. Full length, standing, forward, facing left, legs slightly apart, left hand on hip, right arm extended to left. He wears 'Elizabethan' costume, with white ruff and pointed lace cuffs. Around his neck on blue ribbon is Order of the Elephant. On the left breast of his three-quarter length black cloak is a star-shaped insignia.
