Description: Full-length portrait of Charles Kean as Hamlet, his feet slightly apart, his body to the viewer but his head slightly to the left. A very young-looking Hamlet dressed in a black tunic that comes to his knees. He wears a large cross around his neck and a short cloak on the left shoulder of which is a star insignia, suggestive of his princely status. His left hand holds the hilt of his sword. His right hand is raised slightly before him. The general effect suggests that he is in mid speech.
