Description: Portrait of Charles Kemble (1775-1854) as Hamlet. Quotation at foot: 'Speak!...Speak...to me.' Full length, legs apart, forward, facing right. Hamlet wears a tunic with puff sleeves. It is slit in front to the waist. Around his neck he wears a blue ribbon from which is suspended a chivalric insignia. There is also a gold chain around his neck that appears to be tucked inside his tunic. His left arm is extended in front of him to the right. His right hand holds his drawn sword, its point to the ground at left. At right on the ground is his black plumed hat.
