Description: Portrait of Henry Betty (1819-1897), son of William Henry West Betty, as Hamlet. Whole length, forward, facing right, legs apart, arm is extended behind him and holds his sword, the point down to the ground. His left arm is extended in front of him. This appears to be the moment when Hamlet sees the Ghost. He is standing on the battlements. He wears a thigh-length tunic, a cross at his neck, and an elaborate lace collar. Below is caption: 'Mr. Henry Betty as Hamlet.' This is followed by some verses, entitled 'Memoir of Mr. Henry Betty.'
